'The Wedge' is a notorious thumping surf break in Newport Beach, California. In late August 2014 the huge swell generated by Hurricane Marie off the coast of Mexico to the South arrived on the coast of Southern California. The online surf forecast was for 'good to epic' waves at The Wedge. I was in the area and jumped at the chance to witness what I was told were once in a decade sized 5 to 7 meter waves pounding the shore.

These are black and white interpretations of some of my photos from that day. They tell a story of house sized waves, brave watermen and throngs of people watching the spectacle unfold. I hope you enjoy them.
